Strength in Structure
We have made P&G’s organization structure an important part of our capability to grow. It combines the global scale benefits of a $83 billion global company with a local focus to win with consumers and retail customers in each country where P&G products are sold.
P&G’s structure has removed many of the traditional overlaps and inefficiencies that exist in many large companies.
- Global Business Units (GBUs) focus solely on consumers, brands and competitors around the world. They are responsible for the innovation pipeline, profitability and shareholder returns from their businesses.
- Market Development Organizations (MDOs) are charged with knowing consumers and retailers in each market where P&G competes and integrating the innovations flowing from the GBUs into business plans that work in each country.
- Global Business Services (GBS) utilizes P&G talent and expert partners to provide best-in-class business support services at the lowest possible costs to leverage P&G’s scale for a winning advantage.
- Lean Corporate Functions ensure ongoing functional innovation and capability improvement.
Scaled for Savings
P&G’s Global Business Services (GBS) extends and multiplies the company’s abilities by streamlining operations, accelerating internal collaboration, and by scaling systems, services, and processes globally. The GBS organization has been in operation for more than 10 years and has provided the company a competitive advantage through new business models, unique partner relationships and distinctive strategies.
Virtual Presence, Real Results
GBS introduced Video Collaboration Studios in 2008 and P&G now has more than 80 studios globally. The immersive environment created by VCS allows employees to connect face to face from any part of the world—as if they were in the same room. These studios greatly reduce the need for travel—saving money, time, and reducing P&G’s carbon footprint.
We have been utilizing this structure for more than a decade and have more than doubled the capacity to innovate, saved the company more than $900 million and have developed a unique partnership model allowing us to combine our best with the industry’s best.
