Genetic secrets of the microbe that causes dandruff revealed
P&G scientists have announced that they have successfully sequenced the complete genome for Malassezia globosa, a naturally occurring fungus responsible for the onset of dandruff and other skin conditions in humans. Started as an effort to unlock the mechanism behind dandruff, the research has opened the scientific doors for the development and enhancement of treatments for dandruff and other Malassezia-related conditions.

A breath of fresh air
New Febreze Plug & Refresh is the first dual chamber plug-in air Freshener that eliminates odours and automatically switches every 45 minutes between two different – but complementary – fragrances. The scent-switching technology means your nose doesn’t get used to the same scent. The combination of odour elimination and long-lasting scent results in true freshness day after day, week after week.

Do good, use less
Lenor Concentrate wants to promote the environmental benefits that are gained by switching from ‘diluted’ to ‘concentrated’ softeners. P&G helps educate consumers that concentrates represent a sustainable choice and better value for money.

October 2007 marks the 170th year P&G has been in business.
While Sustainability has always been important, P&G today has incorporated sustainability in its Purpose, Values and Principles. P&G’s Purpose is to provide branded products and services of superior quality and value that improve the lives of the world’s consumers, now and for generations to come.

P&G regularly sees external recognition for its efforts on sustainability.

  • Ariel Spain’s Every Drop Counts campaign received one of the most prestigious PR award in the world. The Gold Award for the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Campaign at the pan-European SABRE (Superior Achievement in Branding and Reputation) awards. The campaign gave Spanish consumers tips on saving water in their homes.
  • The new Amiens distribution center received a special trophy for Environmental Sustainability from the French National Logistics Supply Chain Association (ASLOG). It’s the first time in their 35 years of existence that this trophy is granted. The Amiens distribution center incorporates the best thinking on sustainable design from with P&G and outside. Examples of sustainable solutions are: solar panels for hot water supply and photovoltaic cells for energy production, a windmill turbine to produce up to 10% of the energy needed, …

Pampers joins forces with UNICEF
By purchasing a special pack of Pampers nappies, parents in Western Europe were able to support a campaign aiming to save the lives of thousands of mothers and their unborn children. This campaign has meant that P&G, through its Pampers brand, has been able to help UNICEF provide up to 30 million vaccinations for those most in need around the world. Every year, Maternal & Neonatal Tetanus kills more than 30,000 mothers and 140,000 babies around the world. Most of those affected live in remote areas in the poorest countries

Seashores for all
This year is the 15th anniversary of P&G’s long term commitment to the French government’s seashore protection agency Conservatoire du Littoral through the P&G Foundation for Seashore Protection. The Foundation is now embarking on a new mission, to make seashores accessible to disabled children. While protected coastal areas are natural sites and rarely accessible to handicapped children, P&G and the Conservatoire believe that the seashore should be open to all and in this respect they will organise day trips for the children and their families.
